Breast MRI

Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses radio waves in a magnetic field to produce computer generated images of the breast.  An MRI of the breast may show problems in the breast that can not be seen on a Mammogram or Ultrasound.

There are many uses for Breast MRI.  Often it is used as an additional test to Mammography, mainly in women with a new diagnosis of breast cancer or in women with a greater-than-average risk for breast cancer.  Oncologists often use Breast MRI for staging during the treatment of Breast Cancer.  In addition Breast MRI is very helpful for woment with implants.  It is used to check for leaks and to evaluate the tissue arould the imaplnt capsul which is not always visible on a mammgram.

All facilities offering breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging should have the capability of performing biopsies should the need arise.
