Recently, a bill was passed that closed the 'wrong door' loophole in the Breast & Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act. Prior to passage of this bill, if a woman who was otherwise qualified to receive funds to pay for breast cancer treatment under Medicaid, but had her cancer diagnosed at a non-WWC (Women's Wellness Connection) facility, coverage would be denied. Because of this bill, crafted with the help of Dr. Jerome Schroeder of Diversified Radiology, it does not matter where in Colorado her diagnosis is made. If she qualifies, she will get Medicaid coverage for her treatment. With the national ratio of 1 in 8 women being diagnosed with breast cancer, advocates like Dr. Schroeder are making a real difference in saving lives in Colorado.
